Our Brotherhood
VoiceMale is the only all-male identifying a cappella group at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, consisting of students who share a deep passion for music and connection. What began as a group of singers coming together to make music in 2011 has grown into a community defined by friendship, creativity, and a shared commitment to uplifting one another.
At its core, VoiceMale is built on one thing: brotherhood. The group strives to create a space where members feel supported not only as musicians, but as people. Rehearsals are filled with laughter, collaboration, and the constant pursuit of growth. For many members, VoiceMale extends far beyond the stage as the group becomes a home within their college experience.
Our Impact
Musically, VoiceMale is dedicated to dynamic, expressive, and often atypical performances for a cappella. The group performs a wide variety of music from powerful ballads to energetic pop, R&B, and rap often pairing intricate vocal arrangements with vigorous choreography that brings each song to life. Every performance for VoiceMale is an opportunity to tell a story, connect with an audience, and push the boundaries of what a collegiate a cappella group can create.
VoiceMale’s dedication to their craft has also been recognized in competition! The group earned Outstanding Vocal Percussion at the ICCA South Quarterfinals in 2025, and in 2026 was awarded Outstanding Choreography and 1st Place at the ICCA South Quarterfinals; Advancing to the Semifinals for the first time in group history! These achievements motivate VoiceMale to continue pushing creative boundaries, embracing change, and sharing a cappella that is both innovative and authentically their own.
Our Future
Beyond music and competition, VoiceMale believes in using its platform for something greater. In 2022, the group proudly supported men’s mental health, raising and donating over $1,000 to the Face It Foundation and the Hayden Hurst Foundation through their hosted concert, Real Men Cry. For VoiceMale, music is not only a way to entertain, but a way to bring people together, spark meaningful conversations, and create a positive impact in their local communities.
As the group continues to grow, VoiceMale remains grounded in the values that brought them together in the first place: friendship, creativity, and a shared love for making music. Every new member adds another voice, another story, and another chapter to the ongoing and ever-changing legacy of VoiceMale.

Anderson LaRocca
President
Anderson is from Raleigh, NC, and is a junior majoring in Sustainable Development. This is his third year in VoiceMale, he sings tenor III, and his favorite song we've done is Lonely! His favorite VoiceMale memory is eating HotPot before the ICCA Quarterfinals.
Fun Fact: Anderson is a huge science fiction and zombie fan!

Jaquante' Coleman
Vice-President and Choreographer
Jaquante' is from Richmond, VA, and is a senior majoring in Psychology. This is his fourth year in VoiceMale, he sings tenor II, and his favorite song we've done is St. Chroma! His favorite VoiceMale memory has been our music run in the parking deck right before the ICCA Semifinals; so many emotions that day <3!
Fun Fact: Jaquante' has two apostrophes in his full name!

Ben is from Suffolk, VA, and is a senior majoring in Music Education. This is his third year in VoiceMale; he sings baritone, and his favorite song we've done is Who's Been! His favorite VoiceMale memory has been wing nights.

Shaya is from Detroit, MI, and is a Junior majoring in Recreation Management. This is his second semester in VoiceMale; he sings bass, and his favorite song we've done is Hammer to the Heart! His favorite VoiceMale memory was singing Johnny Leave Her at our final concert this past year.
Fun Fact: Shaya has been rock climbing since he was 8 years old!

Luke is from Raleigh, NC, and is a senior majoring in Building Science: Architectural Design and Technology. His favorite VoiceMale memory has been the ICCA Semifinals parking deck, practicing one last time with the bois.

Noah is from Yadkinville, NC, and is a Junior majoring in Theater Performance and Education. This is his second year in VoiceMale; he sings tenor I, and his favorite song we've done is Hit You Where It Hurts! His favorite VoiceMale memory has been winning first place at the ICCA Quarterfinals.
